Ten Rules of the Fashion Road
From the On Point Media Workshop
Media Magic & You: Making the Most of Your Turn in the Spotlight
Observe fashion’s primary rules, and build your confidence and a wardrobe that looks good on camera and everywhere else. Each item you purchase, as well as every piece of clothing that remains in your closet, should answer yes to certain rules of the fashion road. When they do, you are traveling in the right direction, headed toward looking great in person and through any lens.

Stay with what looks best on you. A fashion expert or a fashion-smart friend can help you make better choices. As often as possible, be able to say the following about what you wear, especially clothes you choose for a photo session or an important presentation.
1 “The style flatters me. It fits appropriately, and I feel special when I wear it.”
2 “I love the color.”
3 “It’s comfortable and fits the occasion and my lifestyle.”
4 “It’s clean, wrinkle-free and has no lint or strings attached; all buttons,
zips, hooks, and seams are in order.”
5 “It’s versatile, easy to wear and maintain.”
6 The Wow Factor – Create a personal set of color and fabric swatches or
photos of the outfits in which you look your best on camera. Develop a
corresponding list. Gather the items, including accessories, and keep
them in tip-top shape—to be ready on a moment’s notice for the sound
of the shutter or the applause of an audience.
7 You, You, Unmistakably You – Splurge on a signature piece, whether its
clothing or an accessory, something that is unmistakably you, and you
and everyone else, know it.
8 Quality Counts – Buy fewer pieces of clothing, but upgrade the
quality of each piece you purchase—well-constructed, creatively
designed clothes in better fabrics cost. When properly fitted, they fit
better and photograph beautifully.
9 You Deserve It . . . . Always buy the best you can afford.
10 Take a Risk – Break any fashion rule that stifles you or overshadows
your uniqueness. If you find you have to break too many rules with one
outfit you have not captured your real self. Go back to square one.
Reassess everything!
