A bit of my summer reading is coming from a book of quotations compiled by Dan Zadra and published by Compendium Publishing. I Believe In You was a gift of inspiration to myself. I found it about two years ago searching the shelves in the book section of a thrift shop.
The subtitle on the cover states To your heart, your dream, and the difference you make. All of us human beings want to make a difference and to do that we first have to believe that we can. We have to believe in ourselves, one another, work, and whatever it is we look to for for hope and spiritual guidance.
The small square book offers nuggets of wisdom from Marian Anderson and Miles Davis to D. H. Lawrence and Disraeli. Every nugget invites readers to believe, then take action and keep going. Zadra's selections remind us to do that.
I took an inventory and looked into my little bag to see what I had left over. I had one jewel left in the bag, the brightest jewel of all, I had the gift of faith.
Lola Falana
Thomas Edison's quote explains why the Falana jewel was the brightest. It is needed to follow his simple instruction.
Hang in there. Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.
Thomas Edison
Another offering is from a 17th century philosopher who now gets the last word.
I bring you the gift of these four words, "I believe in you."
Blaise Pascal
