This website is primarily about mass media, and myriad related topics and situations. Your input is necessary to make this a truly interesting and informative conversation. So, let me hear from you.
My goal is to help more people understand media, and to realize that how they present themselves and their ideas can lead to personal and professional success. Media Matters, Etc. aims to be a collection of thoughtful, clearly written essays and features. Many, though certainly not all of them, will come from media, social, and work experiences that will, I hope, help readers navigate the waters of today’s media sea.
You face “the media” when you leave your bedroom. My definition of “the media“ is broader than most. It includes family, friends, associates, acquaintances, colleagues and anyone else who sees or interacts with you regularly. A reporter, in some form, is everywhere; whether amateur or professional, and they are eager to publicly share whatever their efforts turn up.
Have you ever noticed how an eventful situation sends questioners out looking for anybody who may know something about the person being researched? Statements, opinions and any web search information garnered become part of a profile well before the person under consideration has talked with even one member of the media.
I have gathered the most relevant material from research and my career experiences into a media awareness series to help men and women in the arts and entertainment, business and the professions, as well as those working in education, nonprofit organizations and government wisely manage their participation in media situations.
The primary benefit here is that you can learn more, faster, save on the cost of expensive private instruction, and perhaps have fun while doing so. This website points to additional ways of thinking about and preparing for media situations, especially those that involve you personally.
A variety of perspectives from up and down the spectrum of working professionals will be presented. These electronic conversations will be filled with valuable information that will increase your media awareness. Hopefully, over time, it will help you to be a bit more comfortable with “the media,” as well as contribute to your knowledge of how to choose the best professional or the smartest supporter for you when you find yourself in a media pinch. The best or smart one is the person with whom you can easily work; one who can help you execute appropriately in the midst of a surprise or difficult media event. A wiser, more informed you helps to create the teamwork necessary for the professionals or supporters to do their best, most efficient work. I look forward to our conversations, and your frequent visits and comments.
